On this site, there is a video about the Trend Micro meeting held in the Virtualis Convention Center in Second Life. It amazing how fast the technology is improving. Soon, we will be in the Holideck on the Starship Enterprise.
There are indeed many meetings that occur in Second Life. The platform is becoming more stable and more viable for meetings.
You no longer are forced to do Orientation Island (I am a Second Life Mentor) and with a headset, even the newest people are able to get up and running very quickly.
I use Second Life as an eLearning tool, but a bit differently than most people think. I speak at conferences on this and have free tutorials online at subquark.com.
I also do Second Life as a land owner. This is a very different perspective but helps me understand Second Life much more (I own 12 sims at iliveisl.com).
I have hosted meetings for Cisco, Sun Microsystems, and eBay. It's a great venue for certain types of events.
I hope to see the hospitality industry embrace virual worlds as an additional revenue stream to offer in conjuntion with sales and catering (I work for Newmarket - the makers of Delphi and Daylight).
Thanks for the blog on Second Life in the hospitality industry). :)
This blog will be a resource for hospitality and convention educators to learn about and start using Second Life. If you are new here, be sure to view the earlier posts in the archives. Feel free to use the comment area to ask questions or share resources.
